Just a few miles from Prescott

Directions: Take I-17 north to SR 69 to Prescott. From downtown Prescott travel west on Gurley Street, which becomes Thumb Butte Road. Continue on to Thumb Butte Picnic area (3 miles from courthouse).
Thumb Butte Trail, TR 33 : Because of its close proximity to Prescott the Thumb Butte Trail (hiking only) is one of the most popular in the Prescott National Forest.
Route: The trailhead is across from the picnic area on Thumb Butte Road. See Map
Description: 1.4 miles. A 45 minute hike to the ridge just bellow Thumb Butte. The trail is steep in places but is well maintained with rest areas and wide right-of-ways.
Rating: Moderate
Seasons: Spring, summer, fall, in winter snow is possible.

More Trails

Mountain Biking: Allowed on Forest Roads and on Aspen Creek Trail but not on the Thumb Butte Trail.
Aspen Creek Trail: TR 48---multiuse trail. See Map
location: A mile past FR 51 off Copper Basin Rd.
Route: TR 48 (Aspen Creek Trail) and TR 260 best run clockwise.
Description: Loops can be made using forest roads. Riparian ride along FR 53.
TR 260 old road and rough last 1/3rd. TR 48 single-track somewhat tough first section.
Rating: Moderate-Difficult
Seasons: Spring, summer and fall.
