Recent events have led to heightened interest in the upcoming October 7th IFPA Gaspari Nutrition Pro Bodybuilding Classic being held in Cape Cod, Mass. Two-time IFPA pro champ Philip Ricardo, Jr. may have his greatest challenge yet with Dave “The Texas Shredder” Goodin in the mix. Goodin has claimed more than one Natural Pro World championship among his many victories over the past decade. And you can’t overlook notables such as Dave Lovelace and Chris Motil – two of the Northeast’s top young new pros, as well as Charlie Moss and Sean Sullivan (2003 ANBC National Champion) two of the top veteran’s of the Northeast area. Multiple-time Team Universe champion Earl Snyder is always a threat, and then there’s the sultan of symmetry Wil Usher, Jr. plus many others – including the ladies… That’s right, don’t forget the Pro Figure division also being held. NATIONAL BODYBUILDING & FIGURE CHAMPIONSHIPS

IFPA Pro Qualifier

This year marks the third since the top title was established for the OCB federation. The Yorton Cup name came about from drawing from the history of natural bodybuilding. Chet Yorton held the first-ever drug tested physique competition. He founded the first natural bodybuilding federation, and published a magazine (Natural Bodybuilding) as well, to provide exposure to competitors who refused to use drugs and to spread awareness about the dangers of steroids. Yorton truly was the founding father of natural bodybuilding, and the top title established for the OCB was named the Yorton Cup to honor him for creating a platform for drug-free physique competitors, and for his vision, efforts, and accomplishments in the sport.

In addition to the symbolic significance of the show’s title, the awards carry a uniqueness found nowhere else in the sport. The over two-foot tall cups are perpetual awards, meaning each year a new winner’s name is added to one of the shields around the trophies’ bases. The awards contain a running history of all winners’ names, dates they won, and locations in which they won. (Winners keep their trophies. New awards are given each year. The same ones are not passed to new champions each year.)

Another trait that makes the Yorton Cup event stand out is its history of turnouts for womens bodybuilding. Women’s bodybuilding participation has been suffering across the board in recent years, yet the Yorton Cup has drawn stellar lineups for that category each year. Notable appearances have been made by Virginia’s Linda Carpenter and Cassondre Wilburn, Colorado’s Leanne Allen, Massachusetts’ Kelli Correa, Pennsylvania’s Starlet Anderson, Flo Barclay and Doreen Harris, New Mexico’s Gayle Gray, Maryland’s Dianne Brown and Deb Samuels, West Virginia’s Tina Weber, Arizona’s Cathy Chappell and Georgia’s Tonya Joyner, all whom have gone on to the natural pro ranks.

The first two Yorton Cup championships were held in Raleigh, N.C., and Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., respectively. The 2006 version is being held in Pittsburgh, Penn., and will be the first time the event takes place in a location in which the OCB is strongly established. For this reason, this year’s event is expected to far surpass the impressive turnouts of prior events.

On November 13, 2004 Mike Mutschler of Penn., Dianne Brown of Md., and Adelina Carvalhal of N.Y., became the first OCB Yorton Cup national champions. William Powell of N.C., Doreen Harris of Penn., and Katrina Roundtree of Va., who claimed the titles on November 12, 2005, followed them.

The east coast has ruled the title thus far. OCB was founded there and has historically had a stronger base of members in the east. However, many new locations from all parts of the U.S. have been added to the OCB schedule over the past couple of years. Strong bases have been building in the Great Lakes, Southwest, and Gulf regions. Bases are beginning to build up in the Southeast, Northwest and Great Plains regions now as well. The Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions remain the strongest areas for OCB, but the challenge from competitors from other regions will be at an all time high this year.

The OCB Yorton Cup Nationals will include Novice, Masters and Open divisions for Men’s Bodybuilding, Women’s Bodybuilding and Figure. There are no prerequisites for entering the show. Competitors don’t need to have won a particular placement at a previous OCB event. The event is open to all. First-time competitors are welcome.

A session begins with you coming in and warming up on the treadmill, bike, stair-stepper, etc. After you are warmed up, the personal trainer will show you corrective stretches to help improve any muscle imbalances you may have, allowing your muscles to function properly during the training session.
After stretching out your tight muscles, it is time to get you the results you want! Your training will depend on which activities will get your body the best results, so for the next 30 to 40 minutes, the personal trainer will incorporate weight training, free weights, Swiss balls, cables, yoga movements, Pilates, boxing, and many other training modalities that will get you the fastest results, guaranteed.
After finishing postural and core work, the personal trainer will give you a full-body stretch to improve your muscle flexibility and help reduce your soreness. FYI: You should never feel extremely sore the day of or the day following your training session. Overworking to the point of extreme soreness only delays your results, but a little tightness here and there is OK and to be expected.
Then, some of our personal trainers will do some trigger-point, soft-tissue, and massage work to finish the session. The workouts are never dull, but rather always upbeat and fun. We want you to enjoy exercise as much as possible, and you should always leave feeling better and more energized.
