West of Sedona

Overview: Located in the Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness, west of Sedona.
Trailhead (TH): From the junction of SR 89A and SR 179, drive west 9.6 miles to FR 525, on the right. Go north 9.5 miles on unpaved road to the TH parking, which is left of the cattle guard. See Map
Time: Allow 6 hours.
Length: 5 miles.
Rating: Moderate first 4 miles - strenuous and steep 5th mile, frequently crosses usually dry drainage.
Highlights: Indian ruins, wild grapes, pines, junipers, incredible views and the Loy Cabin, if time allotted.
Elevation change: 4,700 - 6,400 feet.
Season: Year-round, best Nov. through May.
Permit: Parking pass ($5) required and available at pay station or ranger office (prices may change without notice).
