Using Flax Seed Oil to Lower Blood Pressure

 

High blood pressure is a killer.  It can devastate entire families, and definitely can be passed down from parent to and child through the family line.   This problem will not just go away if you ignore it long enough, it is deadly serious, and must be treated.  The good news is that high blood pressure can be treated without taking costly drugs and enduring their sometimes painful side effects.  In fact, doctors actually recommend treating the problem naturally before resorting to drugs that might harm while they heal. 

 

There are plenty of things that you can do to help manage your problem.  Diet and exercise are usually helpful, as is a strong attempt to remain calm and avoid stressful situations.  A diet consisting of lots of fish and vegetables will help, as will several natural supplements available.  Flax seed oil is one such natural remedy on the market to treat your high blood pressure problem. 

 

It has been said that taking a full dose of flax seed oil capsules will have an almost immediate result in lowering your blood pressure. While this particular anecdote has not been scientifically proven, science has confirmed the benefits of taking the flax seed oil to your blood pressure.  Flax seeds are one of the richest known sources of the omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid, which promotes heart health.  Research from the Netherlands confirms that consumption of the alpha-linolenic acid reduces the risk of heart disease.

 

Taking a full dose, or the equivalent of a tablespoon of flax seed oil every day, will decrease both systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings by up to nine millimeters of mercury.  This research was confirmed by sixty double-blind studies done on alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). 

 

The two populations with the lowest heart attack rates in the world are the inhabitants of Crete and Kohama Island of Japan.  These peoples both eat foods like flax and oils like canola that contain high levels of ALA.  These levels are so pronounced that Cretans actually have approximately three times the levels of ALA in their bodies than other Europeans. 

 

Flax seed oil actually helps your problem in several ways.  Firstly, flax seed oils decrease the densityof lipoproteins (these are the bad cholesterols that cause plaque to build up and clog arteries), and by simultaneously reducing the numbers of triglycerides.  At the same time, flax seed oils moderate the damage done by these bad compounds to your arteries.  Also, in patients with heart disease, the body’s production of blood clotting agents is exaggerated.  This exaggeration makes it more likely that deadly blood clots will form, and can restrict blood flow.  The ALA found in flax seed oil dramatically lowers the production of these clotting agents in the body.  Flax seed oil might also be able to prevent fatal heart arrhythmia, according to recent research. 

 

Flax seed oil is a great alternative to prescription pills, and even a wonderful supplement to them.  The flax seed oil capsules typically contain twice as much omega-three fatty acids as fish oil capsules, and smell a lot better, too.  You only need to take six capsules, three times daily or whenever you are feeling stressed.  You can even use them in your food preparations.  Flax seed oils have many other benefits as well.  For example, the flax seed oil capsules are an excellent source of food energy, and thus may help you to decrease you appetite.
